Aidana WillowRaven WillowRavens's latest cover design: Wait on the Lord, I Say Wait by Sabriena Williams

What do you think? I Just designed this cover last night. Would this cover make you stop and pick it up to check out the synopsis on the back? Why? As a matter of fact, which of my non-Children's genre covers would you be most likely to pick… Continue

Judy Nichols And The Oscar Goes To...........Huh?

The Academy Awards show is a lot like Christmas. The anticipation always excedes the actual event and you never get what you really want. Just ask Peter O'Toole. Or Kevin Connolly, who just lost his 20th nomination for Achievement in Sound Mixing. Of course no one in the Academy is going to vote for "Transformers," a re-make of a 1980s kids' television show that was, in reality, a blatant attempt to sell toys. Everyone loves to trash the Academy Awards show. Yesterday morning on NPR I heard sna… Continue

Aidana WillowRaven See, Even Illustrators get Rejection Letters...lol.

Bidding on projects &/or providing fresh samples based on a project's description rather than past work is part of the business. In illustration you learn to develop a speculative look at your work much like I would assume an author has to. Critiques are actually known for being very public & at times disappoi… Continue

Harley L. Sachs Freelance tips

Zumaya doesn't do non-fiction, but authors on the list who are freelancers might benefit from a couple of my little books, "Freelance Non-Fiction Articles" which was originally published by the Society for Technical Communication and released back to me for updating, and my little memoir, "CHilly-Chilly BANG! or How We Freelanced Through Europe's Coldest Winter in a VW with a Kid." Both can be downloaded from lulu.com for a small fee.

I started freelancing professionally fifty years ag…

Gloria Oliver August Madness

August has been HOT and just darn weird. And since part of that mess made me miss posting last week, this will be this week's topic! Bwahahaha

The temperatures have been trying to catch up from the below average temps we had in June due to all the unusual rain. The week so far has been cresting at around 104F with the humidity and pollution adding to the mix and making it feel like 110. We've also been having "Red Zone" days, which basically means if you go do anything outside in this…

Cindy Lynn Speer Still getting used to it all...

Hello!

There are so many different places to post blogs, and I'm trying to get used to it all, trying to decide what is best. I like Ning because it feels friendly, and because I get to see so many familair (to me) faces. I've been a part of Zumaya for a long time, it seems, though not really officially. In October, I will be able to prove myself. :D

I post to Livejournal, Blog (soon to be Word Press), Myspace, and I have a vox, facebook invite, and a greatest journal. I'm weddi…

Gloria Oliver June and July Madness

2007 has proven so far to possibly be one of the weirdest years ever for me. Between the obsession, unexpected upsets on things that have been pretty straight forward for years, the weird rash of coincidences, and more, it's been pretty odd. And now there is more!

Over four weeks ago, the building where I work got hit by lighting at 4:44Pm on Friday. The lightning hit one of the numerous air conditioning units, and the sucker caught on fire. We got sent home about 10 minutes early so… Continue

Jane Toombs North of Nonesuch

Nonesuch is an old abandoned copper mine in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The remote village where I live is north of this old mine--so this is where we spend summers--north of Nonesuch, where my Viking and I went to grade school and high school many years ago. Then we married others and led separate lives in separate states until a book I wrote and he read brought us together again. We spend winters in Central Florida. Kinko is a good traveler, though she prefers catching the mice in the UP to…

Shelly Gail Morris Writing Life

Welcome to my first blog ever. I will try not to be boring. Who has time! I'll just give a few facts about me. My first book, The Wondrous Ways of Women was published by Southern Charm Press in 2001. My short story, The Reunion won a short story contest and was published by Novel Books in an anthology titled Pleasure of the Heart in 2002. Belle Books published my short story, Walking with Friends in the series Summer in Mossy Creek, which was later purchased by Berkley Books. Zumaya Publications… Continue

Christopher Hoare Space Adventurer crashes on Re-entry

Been doing some plotting in my head for a background scene in one of my alternate world novels ( yes, I do that a lot, with the intention of reaching deeper into my scenario rather than using the scene in a novel ). Guess what? I came across a huge reality gap in most science fiction scenes of planetary arrival.

A brief description of my scene first. My modern people have been stranded on an alternate Earth, with a culture very like our own timeline around 1700. On the first ocean voyag… Continue

Elizabeth Burton Getting up with fleas

I suppose I should just appreciate the irony. Having set up this site to allow my authors to introduce themselves and their books to people who like to read and hang out with authors, the right columns of our pages--the Google Ads--are all from subsidy publishers.

That only matters if you know how long and hard we've had to struggle NOT to be associated with the subsidy publishers who use our same printing method, usually referred to as print-on-demand or POD. I suppose I should just pr… Continue
